Fubara

The Rivers State chapter of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has stated that it remains unperturbed over the allegation of the possible defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The state PDP noted that as an individual, it is within the right of governor Fubara to take any political interest that he deems fit as far as such decision or action would be to the overall interest of the Rivers people who elected him as their governor against other interests.

Recall that one of the items on the peace agreement Fubara was alleged to have signed in June, was that he should defect to the APC, just to possibly ensure he delivers the state to President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid in 2027.

The Vanguard quoted the chairman of the Rivers State PDP, Dr. Robinson Ewor as reacting that , though Fubara did not inform him about such plan but whatever decision the Fubara takes, “is personal” to him.  This the pundits have agreed should be so, against the backdrop of a seeming weak structure of the PDP in

Recall that a telltale sign  emerged recently when Governor Fubara was sighted with the chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, ushering the Rivers governor to Tinubu’s office on Monday.

Additionally, Fubara’s non-acknowledgement of any role played by the PDP in any form in the course of emergency rule also fuelled the possibility that the coast is clear for him to jump the ship.

But it is on record that not less than 11 PDP governors had dragged the APC government to court seeking a reversal of the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State, which they described describing as highly “unconstitutional”.
