The Rivers State Government has urged the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, to ensure effective implementation of the recently reviewed Expatriate Administration System, EAS, policy, which includes the Expatriate Quota ,EQ, programme, to enhance local content development and promote technology transfer within the state.

Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Hon. Benibo Fredrick Anabraba, made the call on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the Comptroller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Rivers State Command, CIS Yabagi Ibrahim Abdulmajeed, and his team in Port Harcourt.
Hon. Anabraba emphasized that the EAS policy, particularly the attachee component, is vital to building local capacity and achieving sustainable economic growth through knowledge and skill transfer from expatriates to Nigerian workers.
“The Expatriate Quota programme was designed to promote local content and strengthen our human resource base. By attaching our people to expatriates working in Nigeria, we ensure the transfer of critical skills and technology that will drive our industries and manpower efficiency,” he stated.
The SSG reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration to supporting the NIS and other federal agencies in their efforts to safeguard national security while fostering economic progress.
“Rivers State Government will continue to provide an enabling environment for business and employment growth. On your part, we commend the Immigration Service for its efforts toward manpower development and national safety,” he added.
Earlier, the NIS Comptroller, CIS Abdulmajeed, highlighted ongoing reforms in visa and passport issuance processes and revealed that the command has intensified its operations against undocumented immigrants in the state.
He also cautioned residents against harbouring or aiding illegal migrants, stressing that such acts pose security risks to the nation.
