The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed an attempted robbery incident at the Ogbomosho Transmission Substation in the early hours of Sunday 10th May, 2026.
A statement by the TCN’s General Manager Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah stated that following the development, preliminary reports revealed that, a group of armed men gained unauthorized access into the substation premises by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. The intruders proceeded to the gate house in an attempt to attack and immobilize the vigilante security personnel on duty.
Mbah stated that, “The security team on duty repelled the attackers by firing warning shots, forcing them to retreat and flee through the same route they used to gain entry. During their escape, the suspects abandoned some of their tools and personal items near the fence wall.
“Early morning inspection revealed abandoned *implements* suspected to be used in the attempted attack, along with traces of blood and footprints leading to the point of escape. A full search conducted after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the intruders.”
The statement added that incident has since been reported to the relevant authorities, and TCN is currently working closely with security agencies to investigate the matter and prevent a recurrence, even as it expressed relief that no TCN personnel were injured.
Mbah used the opportunity to restate the fact that TCN remains committed to safeguarding its installations and ensuring the safety of staff and infrastructure nationwide.
According to the statement, the Company has directed a formal report of the incident to the Oba’s Palace as part of protocols for necessary action.
