The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Transformation Company of Nigeria, TCN, Engineer Dr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz has commended the management and stakeholders for braving the odds, declaring that the organization recorded an all-time wheeling record of 5,801.84mw, with donor-funded projects of about $1.16 billion, despite experiencing about 131 cases of vandalism in 2025.

The MD/CEO stated this during the Company’s 2025 End-of-Year Goodwill Message expressed the satisfaction that daily energy delivery also hit 128,370.75 MWh nationwide.

The TCN boss said that the recorded feat was as a result of deliberate investments in infrastructure rehabilitation, expansion of transformer capacity and sustained maintenance of transmission assets across the network, declaring that TCN’s wheeling capacity has now increased to 8,700MW.

Dr. Abdulaziz revealed that between January 2024 and November 2025, the company succeeded in commissioning  82 new power transformers, thereby adding over 8,500 MVA to the national grid.

But he expressed grave displeasure that despite listed achievements, that vandalism of infrastructure remains a major threat.

According to the TCN boss, 131 vandalism incidents were recorded across the Company’s network between January and November 2025, adding that as part of measures to stem the negative tide, the TCN collaborated with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), security agencies and community vigilante groups to address the threats.

The TCN Chief also seized the occasion to emphasize on key sector reforms in 2025,most importantly the decentralization of TCN and the successful takeoff of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), with facilities advanced by the $1.6 Nikki donor funds being the Abuja Feeding Scheme, resulting in the construction of five new substations and a new 330kV transmission line.

Dr. Abdulaziz said: “A highlight of our progress came on March 4, 2025, when TCN transmitted an all-time peak generation of 5,801.84MW with a maximum daily energy of 128,370.75MWh delivered nationwide; the highest ever recorded in the country’s history.”

He noted that enumerated achievements were made possible based on deliberate investments in infrastructure rehabilitation, expansion of transformer capacity and sustained maintenance of transmission assets across the network.

“This year, we made deliberate strides to strengthen our infrastructure, rehabilitate ageing assets, and expand transformer capacity across the country. With these efforts, TCN’s wheeling capability has grown to 8,700MW,” he highlighted.

Expressing dissatisfaction that damages to infrastructure constituted a major threat to grid stability, he stated that 131 vandalism incidents were recorded across TCN’s network between January and November 2025, a development that negatively impacted performance largely.

TCN CEO informed that the sole bulk transporter of electricity in the Nigeria’s power sector was stablized by the Electric Power Sector Reform Act of 2005, and serves as the nexus of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), with the mandate to ensure the efficient bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centres, as well as to carry out System Operations and Market Operations.

And, as part of efforts to effectively discharge its core mandate, Dr. Abdulaziz appreciated the fact that the TCN management has continued to implement a strategic, well-articulated systematic programme regarded as the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme (NEGMERP), which incorporates both short- and long-term objectives.

He said that the diligent execution of the programme helped in accelerated progress in grid efficiency, maintenance, rehabilitation, equipment procurement, and network expansion.

He explained that, “TCN currently has the capacity to wheel 8,700 MW of bulk electricity on 330kV and 132kV voltage levels from power generation plants through high-voltage transmission lines and transformers to distribution load centres nationwide.

“Over the last five years, the company has recorded outstanding success across all aspects of transmission project execution and operations, with several significant milestones achieved.”

The TCN Chief said the Transmission Service Provider (TSP)–TCN, is gradually being transformed into a world-class transmission company serving both national and international customers.

He challenged the management, that in the  New Year the Company will not rest on its oars, as efforts will be intensified to to further increase the grid capacity, stability and efficiency, in an effort towards positioning as one of the leading electricity transmission companies in the world.

“The future holds exciting opportunities, and I am confident that the TCN team has the vision and capability to seize them,” Dr. Abdulaziz stressed.

While wishing the management a happy Yuletide and a posperous New Year, Engr. Abdulaziz thanked stakeholders for creating an exceptional work environment, assuring that by working together, Nigeria’s  transmission network will continue to be strengthen.
