Based on its assessment of Nigeria’s opposition political parties as splintered and disorganized, a UK based and globally acclaimed publication- The Economist has predicted that President Bola Tinubu to win the 2027 election despite continuing security (mainly in the North) and general economic challenges.
The authoritative UK publication in its latest edition, observed the country’s “complicated electoral dynamics” are likely to be in favour of the president and his ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
According to the reverred publication Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy, have helped stabilized Nigeria ,with inflation reducing, even as government revenue keeps rising and investment improving.
The Economist drew from Joachim MacEbong of Control Risks, a consultancy which says “Because it’s not a united ticket, that anti-APC vote is not coalesced into a single vote,”
Its private investigator in Maiduguri has equally helped to sustain its projection that, “some people say they do not even know who else is on the ballot besides Mr Tinubu.”
Similarly, the APC is projected by the Political Intelligence Group (PIG) of Politico.ng to dominate its main opposition rivals, African Democratic Congress, ADC and Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC in the run up to the elections.
The PIG, in its October electoral map released on Friday (yesterday) , noted that the projection was a snapshot of the political trends at the time of the assessment.
The group gave APC 19 states, NDC 10 states and ADC eight states.
Its October assessment comes after a month characterized by different events, which it noted are capable of influencing the political calculations ahead of the 2027 election.
The developments bothered on one, the denial of entry into Benue State involving Peter Obi, Tinubu’s leading political opponent in the month of September.
Two. The dust over President Tinubu’s working vacation in France, especially against the backdrop of the latter’s absence from the country and the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA 2026 as another development considered in the group’s assessment. Although, apart from Mr. Tinubu, three other presidents from Africa were equally represented by their vice presidents.
The PIG also made an issue of the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s persistent focus on the fuel subsidy removal and what it described as a “sudden turnaround” as part of the political developments that shaped the month.
The Pinnacle Times on its part observes that both rivals of late have changed strategies by zooming in on the past records of Mr. Tinubu, apart from building solid grassroots base across the country.
To ensure all necessary steps are taken for victory ahead of 2027, the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders comprising governors, political appointees and other party leaders from the six North-Central states and the Federal Capital Territory, apart from those in the North-Central have resolved to mobilise the highest number of votes across the six geopolitical zones for President Bola Tinubu in next year’s election.
The stakeholders have also fixed October 10, 2026, for a mass rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, to demonstrate the zone’s support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. This came as part of the fallouts of the Friday (yesterday) planning meeting of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement held at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja.
The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who read the resolution said the stakeholders roundly agreed to support Tinubu and mobilise extensively across the zone ahead of the election.
The October 10 rally is expected to would bring together APC members and supporters from Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, to demonstrate the zone’s support for the President.
According to sources, the stakeholders intend to use the gathering to express solidarity for President Tinubu and give hime the highest votes across the six geo-political zones
