The subject of prayer is one of the most commonly discussed topics in the history of mankind.Various religions have come up with different theories, interpretations and even arguments.
This subject must really be important to have gained the interest of many people, sect, and mankind at large.
As broad as Prayer itself is, it has been abused, misinterpreted, misunderstood and done shabbily by people over the years.
This suggests that there is a RIGHT way or approach to pray and, of course, a WRONG way.
Despite the fact that there are lots of articles on Prayer, It is still one which is still being studied and researched.
However, the subject of Prayer can ’t be reduced just to research and studies. The best way to understand it is to know God’s mind about it, because He is the author of Prayer.
At this point, it is safe to say, PRAYER is of utmost importance.
In this article I’ll be speaking on the POWER OF PRAYER. It’ll be a difficult task to understand the Power of Prayer without looking at what Prayer means.
What is PRAYER?
Prayer, according to the dictionary is defined as a religious service, especially a regular one, at which people gather in order to pray together.
It’s also defined as an earnest hope or wish.
However, Prayer is much more than these. Prayer is not just a religious service, neither is it merely an earnest hope or wish.
Prayer is communication. It is dialogue. Prayer is a dialogue that occurs between God and man.
This shows that for effective prayer there must be a collaboration between man and God. The two parties must be engaged.
John 16:23-26
23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Askand you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use thiskind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in myname. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.
In our dialogue which most times comes in form of request, thanksgiving, petition etc. it is important to know that we pray to God (the Father) in the name of JESUS.
Our communication, dialogue, fellowship with God (the Father) is done in the name of Jesus.
It is through Jesus we gain access to pray to the Father. What a privilege! Further still, in prayer it is important to know that the entirety of our being (spirit, soul and body) is involved. It is not just the repetition of words, or even the muttering of words which have little or no meaning to us. James 5:16…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.“ This suggest that effectiveness of prayer is seen when fervency is involved. In other words, prayer power can only be maximized when fervency. The amplified Bible explains it better ,‘…The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) is able to accomplish much[when put into action and made effective by God–it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]…’
