The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has returned to the country consequent on his medical treatment in the United Kingdom, due to an undisclosed health condition.

Confirming his return from medical trip, the Nigeria Television Authority, NTA on its X account shared a 10-second video released on Sunday with a title “The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, sighted on Sunday looking hale and hearty.”

Multiple reports had stated that the finance minister and his counterpart in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation at the hotel on Sunday.

Mr. Wale Edun had on October 13 made a trip to the UK for medical treatment, according to sources.

And, while speculations had mounted over his whereabouts and concerns over his health condition, Edun was sighted  later London at an arts exhibition, thereby mitigating the rumours about the seriousness of his health condition.

Before this time, the rumour mill stated it that the finance minister was hurriedly flown abroad for medical treatment over what some social media reports alleged that Mr. Wale Edun had a serious condition resulting in stroke. But a counter report soon emerged refuting the social media reports, stating that the minister was in Abuja receiving treatment being given to him be Nigerian doctors.

It was equally rumoured in some quarters that, based on the severity of Mr. Edun medial issues, the presidency had already started shopping for his likely replacement, even as the Governor of Central Bank, Olayemi Cardoso was said to be holding forth in Edun’s absence.

Though said to have been back in the country, as the time of filing this report, the ministry of finance had yet to issue a former statement confirming Mr. Edun’s arrival and fitness.
