Still in our relaxation reflections, I’d love to share one more thought with you, following on from “Finale of the Year’s Breaths” the first installment for this series. This second installment of the two-part New Year’s series invites you to pause and ponder the passage of time.
This piece titled: “When Fireworks Fade”, drills deeper into the themes of self-reflection, personal growth, and the human experience.
Come with me as you immerse yourself in these words and emotions that follow, reflecting on your own experiences and insights from the past year.
Here goes the poem:
But amidst the celebration, lie silent truths
Ones sobering and repeatedly lingering all around;
That vows made may soon be unfound,
Vows once fervently made now nowhere to be found,
Now left lost lingering hanging in the clouds.
Left lonely with the reflection, of vows yet released
In silent nights when fireworks have ceased
Being thankful to be among breathing moving souls
Souls stepping into the New Year with cheerful hearts
Hoping vows fulfill, and dreams draw near
As many seek to create new starts.
For churches and mosques where prayers were said
Places where words were said and vows made
Shall stand as witnesses to promises yet to trade.
But tell me, dear heart, why wait?
Why delay, until the old year’s fate?
Why shout and cheer to make vows so bold
Only to forget, letting promises grow cold?
Why waste time in empty hollowness?
Waiting till a year’s end to come
Before being reminded to be garbed with newness?
Can’t we start anew, at any moment we choose?
Why wait the clock, to strike its magical muse?
Before being reawakened from our sleepy snooze.
What essence is in a New Year’s delight?
Just a cycle of empty echoing lights!?
That sure shall last not Beyond the eve’s night?
Shall we not break the chain of reverberating words
And stop the empty plenty talks?
Or will we wait until another year passes
Before taking actions to rewrite our records?
For at the end of the day,
Not the fireworks that ignite, or words uttered,
Not the felt emotions that Will pave new ways
Not the shouted out resolutions, or ones muttered
That will keep mishaps away.
But the choices made are what Will guide
Guide us through life’s tides
For in the depths of our hearts, voices whisper
Promises unkept and dreams yet to unfold.
Echoes of our past remind us to strive
To bridge the gap between words and life,
With courage to face fears and doubts we hold
Emerging stronger, wiser, with hearts made bold,
Rising above emptiness, finding new ways
As we start anew, from this very day.
Having read through the Christmas and New Year’s series, would love to hear your thoughts. What resonated with you? What insights did you gain? Please do share your reflections with us, so you and I can keep the conversations going.
