A media and perception group supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, AA Connect, has responded to the televised reactions of Barrister Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of FCT, for unjustly shifting the blame for his setbacks on the former VP, saying it was the consequence of his political setback in the recent Rivers State local government elections.
Wike, the FCT Minister had said over the weekend that he would continue to be a problem to former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, Mr Peter Obi and governors elected on the platform of the opposition party.
He spoke at a luncheon he organised in honour of the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rivers State in Port Harcourt, saying he had no regrets supporting President Bola Tinubu instead of his party’s presidential candidate, Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 elections.
Wike was quoted as saying: “In fact, the Atiku’s group believes that my team and I stopped them from becoming president. And we stopped in justice. What we wanted was equity, fairness and justice.’’
The group, in a statement signed by its Media Director, Bamidele Moshood
,(AA Connect) criticized the FCT minister by stressing that, “Wike remains embroiled in the fallout from his resounding defeat at the 2022 PDP presidential primaries and his latest dispute with his political mentee.
“Records show that Wike’s loss in the 2022 PDP Presidential Primaries significantly impacted his political outlook. His subsequent rejection for the Vice Presidential slot exacerbated his frustration, leading to heightened tensions.
“People are protective of their personal brand and are hesitant to be linked to him, fearing reputational damage. Indeed, he received an offer from the ruling party’s less favored candidate and is currently benefiting, along with his inner circle, amidst widespread suffering.
“The majority of Nigerians and PDP adherents have shifted their focus towards utilizing democratic processes to usher in change and potentially oust the APC by 2027, however, Wike persists in his bitterness and attachment to past events.”
The media perception group noted that Atiku Abubakar is committed to fostering a new Nigeria and ready to joining forces with Nigerians to potentially defeat the incumbent President at the 2027 elections.
On the current economic situation of the country, it stated that, “We are disturbed by the severe hardship and the APC’s lack of competence, which has significantly deteriorated the state of affairs established by the PDP nine years ago.
“Nigerians are expressing regret over the presidency of President Tinubu, whom Wike supported, and are now looking to Atiku Abubakar as a beacon of hope for the common man due to his consistent and constructive critiques and free counsel to the Federal Government.”
According to the group, the former VP Atiku stands as the “Candidate with a Clear Vision” to address Nigeria’s numerous challenges head-on, through the Implementation policies that can promote economic stability “without placing undue burdens of taxation and hunger on the populace.”
The group opined that Nigerians will reject both Wike and APC in the 2027 elections.
