The Director General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier-General Yushau Ahmed, has said corps members nationwide will start receiving monthly allowance of N77,000 to reflect the minimum wage increase effective February 2025.

The DG made the declaration on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 corps members in Katsina, said the allowance has been captured in the 2025 Federal Government’s budget.

Director-General Ahmed said: “This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed. By next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000.” He said that the government having approved the increase in the allowance of Corps members, it is time for them to reciprocate the gesture in their service year.

He restated his commitment to the welfare and security of corps members across the country. He stressed that no corps member will be deployed to communities where there is security threat during their service to the nation.

“We will not send our corps members to wherever we have challenges of security threats. Wherever we send them, they should be less assured that the place is safe and secured for them to serve, ”the NYSC DG assured.

But some angry Nigerian youths have expressed displeasure over promises made in the past to effect corps members allowance, saying that at every point government continued to give unfulfilled hope. They are of the view that at this point, government should go ahead to make payment and stop publicizing the increase in their allowance.
