Fidelity Bank has issued a clarification following the circulation of a viral message on social media claiming that Nigerian youths are required to open accounts with the bank in order to receive ₦70,000 under the Youth Economic Intervention and De-Radicalization Programme (YEIDEP).
In an official notice, the bank confirmed that it is indeed one of the approved partner banks under the YEIDEP initiative but stated categorically that it is not aware of any directive mandating customers to open accounts to qualify for, or access, the ₦70,000 payment.
The bank further explained that the initiative, previously known as the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalization Programme (NIYEEDEP), has recently been the subject of misinformation online. Fidelity Bank emphasized that any request to open an account will be treated solely as a formal customer service request, not as a requirement for receiving funds under the programme.
“Kindly note that any request to open an account will be treated solely as the customer’s formal request to open an account, and not as a prerequisite to qualify for, or receive, any ₦70,000 payment,” the notice read.
The bank advised members of the public to disregard unverified information and rely exclusively on official communication channels for accurate updates.
