Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced plans to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to establish a new security framework aimed at tackling car theft across the State.
The governor disclosed this on Thursday, November 6, 2025, when he received the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, at Government House, Port Harcourt. The Corps Marshal was on a courtesy visit to seek the State Government’s continued partnership in strengthening the operations of the FRSC in Rivers State.
Governor Fubara expressed appreciation for the commendation by the Corps Marshal regarding his administration’s contributions toward enhancing traffic control, road safety, and the welfare of FRSC officers — all of which, he noted, align with his vision for a safer and better-governed State.
Responding to the Corps Marshal’s requests for additional support, including vehicles and accommodation for the Sector Commander, the governor assured that the issues would be addressed promptly.
According to him:
“We are working on something to improve security, particularly to reduce car theft in the State. We’re already developing a system through the Ministry of Transport to create synergy with the FRSC for tracking vehicles, especially those operating within Rivers.
“So, when a car theft is reported, the Ministry can work with the Road Safety Corps to trace the vehicle. I believe very soon the appropriate Ministry will be reaching out to you.”
Governor Fubara also commended the FRSC Corps Marshal for adopting a people-focused approach in his leadership of the Corps, emphasizing public engagement and practical problem-solving.
He said:
“Your approach of engaging people in interactive sessions helps to identify real problems and workable solutions — not theoretical ones that don’t fit our realities.
“We are all working for one goal: making Nigeria great. Your ideology is not far from mine, and the end result is the same — getting the work done for everyone.”
Earlier in his remarks, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed lauded Governor Fubara for his administration’s consistent support and interventions that have strengthened the FRSC’s operations in the State.
He said:
“I am not surprised by your contributions because you belong to our noble profession of accountancy. You are a global brand with a global mindset, and we are witnessing the transformation in Rivers State.
“The challenge of road traffic crashes and trauma is increasingly critical, and we seek your further assistance in providing vehicles and accommodation for our Sector Commander to enhance our operations.”
