The Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has resumed duty at the Government House, Port Harcourt, promising to address the state 6 pm, ( less than an hour of filing this report)
His return to duty followed the expiration of the Emergency Rule imposed on the state by President Bola Tinubu on March 18, suspending the executive, led by the governor, his deputy and other cabinet members, including the state house of assembly.
The governor whose palpable absence in the state yesterday generated some anxious moments, but on Friday made his entry into the state as he arrived at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at 11:40 am in the company of his wife, the Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie and others in his company.
Sim Fubara was received at the airport by his former commissioners, LGA chairmen, leaders of the state and supporters who turned up enthusiastically to welcome him.
He later arrived at the Government House, Port Harcourt and expressed his appreciation to Rivers people for their show of solidarity.
He assured that the government under his watch will ensure the needs of the state remain top priority
“I know everybody wants to hear something from me. In fact, I expected it when I landed.
“Let me first of all appreciate the wonderful people of Rivers State. I am really humbled by what I saw at the Airport.
“I was thrilled by the photographs of what happened here yesterday. That reception really humbled me,” he said warmly.”
In further appreciation of the solidarity of the people, governor Fubara said: “I want to want to assure you that we will, by the grace of God, continue to give those things that made you people love us. I want to thank everybody and to say that we love you, but God loves you more.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT and former governor of the state, Barrister Nyesom Wike,the acclaimed political godfather of governor Sim Fubara has assured the Rivers people of the return of peace to the state.
Wike demonstrated the reunion between him and Fubara when he said he had spoken with the governor earlier.
The FCT minister said on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday that, “As I speak to you, as of yesterday, I spoke to the Governor (Fubara). I told him I was leaving that night to come back, and he told me he was leaving this morning.”
He added that, “So, I can tell you that, by the grace of God, peace has returned. And look at what the Assembly did today to set the tone — you can see peace; you can see we are prepared, for the interest of the state. Let’s move forward.”
