Dr. Nsikak Akpan, a lecturer at Foreign Links College of Health Technology in Moro, Osun State, has officially broken the world record for the longest marathon lecture after reaching 140 hours. Dr. Akpan has surpassed the previous record of 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds set by Indian professor Arvin Mishra in 2014, with 10 hours remaining in his planned 150-hour lecture marathon.
Starting on September 20, Dr. Akpan’s lecture, themed “Relationships between Man’s Environment and Health,” has drawn significant attention and admiration from the academic community and beyond. His goal was not just to break the record but to engage students in critical discussions on health issues, with a strong focus on the connection between environmental factors and human well-being.
During his lecture on mental health, Dr. Akpan noted, “The mental health of a person is influenced by various factors, especially their environment and spiritual well-being. The environment in which one lives and works has a direct impact on their health.”
With less than 10 hours left in his marathon, Dr. Akpan’s endurance and dedication to education have made him a symbol of perseverance and academic passion. Each lecture session lasts four hours, followed by a brief 20-minute break.
As he approaches the finish line, Dr. Akpan’s record-breaking feat has inspired students, educators, and the broader community, highlighting the profound impact of resilience in the pursuit of knowledge.
